The Two Worlds of the Rhinoceros Beetle

Male rhino beetle (Oryctes rhinocerus)
When captured it gives off a gritting sound,
struggling to escape from our hold,
six legs armed with sharp claws like talons,
armored knight of the insect world.
We, kids in our time, played medieval duel,
two horned knights fighting each other;
amidst deafening laughter and coaching,
making us brothers to one another.
Enemy of farmers, scourge of the coconut;
pest in any name, cruel and bold;
this strange creature we've long forgotten,
save sweet memories of childhood.~
