Birds' Nests on our Window

                                 Birds' Nests on our Window

The hall is now busy with child's play;
footsteps and human voices
echo across, windows wide open,
but where have the birds gone?

Dr Abe V Rotor

Whatever happened to the birds that built their nests on our window.

Two bird's nests being built between a window grill and screen.

Close-up of nearly completed nest

That was before my son and family
     came home to live with us,
tired of living in the metropolis;
     to our ancestral house.

For many years our house was haven
     to house sparrows nesting
on the iron grills of the window pane,
     all day singing and chirping.

Often in chorus they filled the air,
     with young birds learning to fly,
while new couples build their nests,
     in joyous call and cry.

The hall is now busy with child's play;
     footsteps and human voices
echo across, windows wide open,
     but where have the birds gone? ~
