Listen to the Birds in the Trees and Revere Life

Listen to the Birds in the Trees and Revere Life
Dr Abe V Rotor

Birds in the Trees in acrylic by the author. Leaf impressions from the tree hosts of the house sparrows that spend the night in their branches (Lagundi, Vitex negundo, and Umbrella Tree, Terminalia catappa).

Nest of house sparrow showing the development of egg to birdlings, on thorny Limonsito (Triphasia trifolia) overlooking the window of the author's residence.

I wake up to the chirping of birds
     in the trees by my window,
in peace and quiet, happy and fresh,
     as the sun peeping through.

A ritual I follow every morning
     in quiet and peace to greet the day,
with these birds tame yet wild,
     sans master, sans duty to pay.

Descendants of the Archaeopteryx,
     survivor of a fire in the sky,
that wiped out the ancient reptiles,
     save those that could fly.

Birds carry the line with a mission;
     their songs, their presence,
tell us of a beautiful story ever told;
     revere life, the basic sense.  ~
