The Return of the Lawin

The Return of the Lawin

The Return of the Lawin, details of a painting by Dr AV Rotor, 2024

From the blue sky came a tired and weary hawk,
In silence and song, its color gray and white,
This emissary came in a most beautiful sight,
With a message from the Ark, a song of a lark.

But the town was asleep and the air was sultry,
And old eyes blurred and saw instead a kite,
Dangling in the jungle throughout the night,
Until a breeze came in and set it free.

And the children saw the bird, its song they heard,
In joyous mood they all begged it to land
But it flew over their heads 'til it was gone,
Leaving a feather like a flag unfurled.
