Flores de Mayo - A Study in Photography

Flores de Mayo or Flowers of May

 What makes a good photograph?
“A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it. It is, in a word, effective.”   Irving Penn

Dr Abe V Rotor

Angie then 18, and presently a coed from the University of Abra (UAbra), formerly Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST), poses with staminate flowers of squash* (Cucurbita maxima) before a nature scene painted by the author.

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” – Karl Lagerfeld

Guidelines in photo analysis.
Don't be deceived by social media such as instagram, facebook, and now AI. Don't just rely on modern tools and equipment either. Base your analysis on the combined effectiveness of technical proficiency, creative vision, and the ability to tell a compelling story. Consider the key elements of photography -  strong composition, effective use of light and exposure, and ability to capture a unique or memorable moment - perhaps a fleeting moment. By the way, relate the subject to current social and economic issues, and put your analysis in writing, and share.

* Squash flowers are a favorite vegetable among Ilocanos, cooked as bulanglang (dinengdeng Ilk).  It is rich in antioxidant properties, vitamins and minerals.
