October Birth Flower
Amarillo or Marigold (Tagetes patula)
Dr Abe V Rotor
Amarillo is an erect, smooth, branched, rank-smelling herb. It is similar to Ahito (Tagetes erecta) except that it is smaller, with finer leaves and smaller heads.
Amarillo is cultivated for ornamental purposes in the Philippines. A native of Mexico, it is now widely distributed in cultivation. The flowers have digestive, diuretic and sedative properties. Other properties include: nematicidal, larvicidal, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory. Dried flowers are used for coloring foods and textiles.
