Verses on Living with Nature (Part 2)

"How wonderful is creation
when we realize in a minuscule
the universality of the simple
linked to the complex,
where every living thing is part
of life’s interrelating;
like a chain, its strength
shared by each link cooperating." avr

                1. Who cares about the broken bridge in summer?
When fishing poles bend to the weight of catch,
Young and old wait for the pot to shimmer.
Everything’s silent save the breeze and chime,
And river flowing in the idleness of time.

                  2. Let the sailboats play in the wind
And water, let alone an old boat
At rest, sitting on rock like an old man,
Standing guard over the young, who too,
Shall someday play the same old game.

                  3.Through the mist we see children
Years back with many a year lost;
Yet much is gained in memory
That holds stories untold.
Who is fishing there? Ahoy!
Only the tingling chime answers;
The childhood in us throbs, throbs
With the sweet music of time.

                  4. I, too, shall join you in time;
the oxygen and food you make are also mine,
and death we shall share, and our genes shall live
in our own offspring and live life forevermore
until in earth becomes still.”

                 5. Youth and death, pleasure and sorrow,
One comes to this world after you;
Who and when we do not know,
In your domain where you grow.
You link three worlds - yesterday,
More so, today and tomorrow;
In our sleep and in our sorrow,
To a new life and a new day.

                  6. Rage and break, rage and break,
On the cold wall and be free;
Make the sky and the river meet
Under a rainbow by the sea
